Originated in the British Isles. It's a descendent of the Asiatic mastiff. It was a bull baiting dog. They were fighters in the arena but the practice was banned in the 1800's.
The breed was featured in the movie, "Lady and the Tramp."
They were originally bred for fighting but now they are sweet and friendly dogs.
They can weigh up to 50 lbs.
