History of The Golden Retriever

Originated in Scotland in the 1800s, these dogs were bred for hunting, tracking and as bird dogs. Today they are one of the most popular breeds in the world and are used as guide dogs, companion animals, narcotics detection, search and rescue, as well as therapy dogs.

The breed was initially created by crossing yellow Flat-Coated Retrievers, Tweed Water Spaniels, Bloodhounds and Irish Setters.
